    Default Newbie

    Hi gang,

Must be the season for newbies turning up! I thought I better introduce myself before I started posting here.

I picked up an '92 851 strada s3(?) last Thursday. Just started to get the older bike bug late last year and after my 851/888 search at the time turned up nothing I ended up buying a '78 Darmah that I'm in the middle of making roadworthy after it was put into hibernation in '82.

Once that project is a bit further on I'll start to turn my attentions to the 851 and then I'll be pestering you guys for advice, tips and info.

I came by this 851 purely by chance. Our local Ducati dealer here in Scotland knew I had been looking for 851 or 888 and received a phone call from a guy who was moving house that day and needed rid of the bike there and then. The dealer passed his number on to me.

It turned out the guy had parked the bike in the garage 4 or 5 years ago and through his work (merchant navy) never rode it again. A half hearted attempt to get the bike useable again had saw him remove the bodywork and leave it at that.

Between then and now no more had been done, other than him managing to lose one of the rear seat side panels and all the bodywork fasteners.

He needed the bike gone and didn't have the luxury of time. Negotiations were brief, very brief in fact, and I put the bike in the van after parting with 200 for it.

This is the bike as I found it in his garage. You can get an idea of the amount of dirt and grime on it if you notice the bodywork in the first picture.

After I got it home, I spent a bit of time with the degreaser, bike cleaner and a pressure washer.

Things cleaned up pretty easy, but there's still a looong way to go!

If you managed to read this far, well done. Sorry for the long post, and thanks for having a great forum.

    Cheers!

    Scott

    200 quid!!! you bloody robber!
nice pick up, well done. looks like it should clean up well, good luck finding the bits you need, a wanted ad in the classifieds should get you most of what you need before having to resort to the 3 or 4 851/888 specialists on e-bay.

    Welcome Scott,

That was the deal of the Century!!
I have seen the side panels on US Ebay quite often. There was a set there a week or two ago.

    Welcome on in Scott,

Another addition to your stable (and the best one of the lot IMHO ).

I'm not jealous by the way .

We will have to get out on another run again this year, maybe an 851/888 run eh this time .
